  1. windsurfing, or boardsailing or sailboarding
  2. Water sport combining elements of surfing and
  3. sailing. The windsurfer stands on a board
  4. 2.5-4 m/8-13 ft long, which is propelled and
  5. steered by means of a sail attached to a mast
  6. that is articulated at the foot. The sport
  7. was first developed in the USA in 1968. Since
  8. 1984 the sport has been included in the
  9. Olympic Games as part of the yachting events.
  10. Using the Lechner board, speeds in excess of
  11. 40 knots have been achieved. From 1992 men
  12. and women will have to compete in their
  13. individual categories. There are also annual
  14. boardsailing world championships. The 1990
  15. winners of the Lechner class world
  16. championship were (men) Michel Quinten
  17. (France) and (women) Penny Way (UK).
